Self-Improvement
September · Word of the Month
September's word is SELF-IMPROVEMENT — deliberately getting better at something you've chosen, not just something assigned to you. Real improvement is specific and trackable, not just "trying harder" in general.
🌱 Choosing your own focus
Improvement sticks best when the goal is chosen, not assigned. Helping your child pick one specific thing to focus on — and one concrete step this week — beats a vague resolution to "do better" every time.
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Choosing one specific Taekwondo skill to focus on for 3 months
- ●Identifying a concrete weekly step toward a school goal
- ●Noticing the real link between exercise and mood or focus
- ●Connecting nutrition choices to actual performance, not just rules
💬 Try asking your child
- ●If you could get noticeably better at one thing in the next 3 months, what would it be?
- ●How does exercise affect your energy, mood, or focus?
- ●How is the food you eat connected to how you perform in Taekwondo or at school?
💡 Try This At Home
Help your child turn a vague goal ("get better at math") into one concrete, trackable step for this week ("redo the 3 problems I missed on the last quiz"). Specificity is what makes improvement actually happen.
"What gets measured gets improved." Pick one specific, trackable step together this week.
