Respect
May · Word of the Month
This month's word is RESPECT. Respect means valuing other people — their feelings, their belongings, and their trust — and it starts with respecting yourself, too.
🙇 What is respect?
Respect shows up as trust, appreciation, and how we treat ourselves. Trusting someone means believing they'll do what they say. Appreciation means noticing and valuing what someone does for us.
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Bowing to your instructor and listening in class
- ●Keeping a promise you made to a friend
- ●Saying thank you and meaning it
- ●Taking care of your own body and mind
💬 Try asking your child
- ●Who do you respect, and why?
- ●What does it mean to trust someone — how do you show someone they can trust you?
- ●What does self-respect mean to you?
💡 Try This At Home
Trust and respect are built the same way: through small, consistent actions over time. Point out moments your child kept a promise or told the truth, however small — that's respect being built in real time.
"Respect is trust you've earned, over and over." Talk about someone who has earned your family's trust.
