Self-Esteem
June · Word of the Month
This month's word is SELF-ESTEEM. Self-esteem is how we see and value ourselves — it grows through accomplishment and through the way we talk to ourselves, especially when things are hard.
🌟 What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem isn't about thinking you're better than everyone — it's about knowing your own worth. It's shaped by our self-talk (the voice in our head) and by noticing real things we've accomplished.
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Using kind words to describe yourself
- ●Trying again after making a mistake, without giving up on yourself
- ●Naming something you've accomplished
- ●Helping build up a friend's confidence, too
💬 Try asking your child
- ●What are 5 words that describe your personality?
- ●What do you usually say to yourself when something is hard?
- ●What is something you've accomplished that you're proud of?
💡 Try This At Home
Listen for your child's self-talk after a mistake. If it's harsh ("I'm so bad at this"), gently offer a kinder rewrite together — modeling that self-talk is a skill that can be practiced, just like a kick.
"Talk to yourself like someone you love." Practice rewriting one unkind thought together this week.
