Self-Esteem
June · Word of the Month
This month we are learning about SELF-ESTEEM! Self-esteem means feeling good about who you are. Every time your child feels proud of trying their best in class, that's self-esteem growing.
🌟 What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem is the good feeling inside that says "I am special, just as I am." It grows when we notice the things we're good at and are kind to ourselves, especially when something is hard.
📖 Examples of self-esteem for this age
- ●Saying something kind about yourself
- ●Feeling proud after trying your best
- ●Naming something you're good at
- ●Using kind words instead of unkind ones about yourself
💬 Try asking your child
- ●What makes you special?
- ●What are you good at?
- ●What is something kind you can say to yourself?
💡 Try This At Home
Narrate your child's strengths out loud, often and specifically: "You worked so hard on that kick — you should be proud!" Specific praise builds a much sturdier sense of self than general praise like "good job."
"I am special, just the way I am!" Say it together, looking in a mirror.
