Perseverance
February · Word of the Month
This month we are learning about PERSEVERANCE! Perseverance means trying again, even when something is hard, instead of giving up. Every time your child falls down during a kick and gets back up to try again, that is perseverance!
🥋 What is perseverance?
Think of a baby learning to walk. They fall down again and again, but they keep getting back up until they can walk all by themselves. That is perseverance! We get good at things by trying again and again.
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Trying again after falling off a bike
- ●Practicing a puzzle until it's finished
- ●Trying a new kick even when it feels wobbly
- ●Sounding out a hard word while reading
💬 Try asking your child
- ●Tell me about a time something was hard, but you kept trying.
- ●What do you do when something feels too hard to keep going?
- ●How did you feel after you finally figured something out?
💡 Try This At Home
When your child gets frustrated with something, resist jumping in to fix it right away. Instead say, "I know this is hard. Let's try one more time together." This teaches them that hard things become easier with practice.
"I will try, try again!" Practice saying it together whenever something feels tough this week.
