Goals
January · Word of the Month
This month's word is GOALS. A goal is something you decide you want to achieve, and then work toward on purpose. Every belt and stripe in Taekwondo is a goal your child worked hard to earn!
🥋 What is a goal?
Goals are different from wishes. A wish just happens to you — a goal is something you MAKE happen by taking action and following a plan.
🌟 Three kinds of goals
- ●Short-term: 2 months or less (like learning a new kick)
- ●Medium-term: 6 months to a year (like earning the next belt)
- ●Long-term: a year or more (like reaching black belt)
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Reading a whole chapter book
- ●Riding a bike without training wheels
- ●Earning the next belt rank
- ●Making the school team
- ●Learning to do a split
💬 Try asking your child
- ●What is something you want to be able to do by the end of this year?
- ●Have you ever given up on a goal? What happened?
- ●Who do you know that is really good at reaching their goals?
- ●What is the hardest part about working toward something big?
💡 Try This At Home
Help your child write their goal somewhere they'll see it every day. Break it into small steps together and celebrate each step — not just the finish line. Goals that are written down are far more likely to be achieved!
"A goal without a plan is just a wish." What do you think this means? Talk about it together.
