Dedication
December · Word of the Month
This month's word is DEDICATION — staying committed to something over time, especially through the year-end moments when it's tempting to coast. It's a great month to look back at everything your child has built.
🎯 What is dedication?
Dedication is different from a single burst of motivation. It's showing up consistently, setting a vision for what's next, and using determination to push past the obstacles that get in the way.
📖 Examples for this age
- ●Setting a goal for the year ahead
- ●Naming an obstacle and pushing through it with determination
- ●Practicing even when motivation is low
- ●Reflecting honestly on the whole year, not just the highlights
💬 Try asking your child
- ●What are 3 goals you envision for next year?
- ●What are the things that get in the way of our goals, and how can determination help?
- ●Looking back at this whole year, what are you most proud of?
💡 Try This At Home
Make the year-end reflection a real conversation, not a quiz — share your own answer first ("here's something I'm proud of from this year...") to model honest reflection before asking your child to share theirs.
"Dedication is showing up, especially on the days you don't feel like it." Talk about a day like that from this year.
